Seriously, it would be nice to see some new faces etc. Make friends for the next LUYD! event or folk you can hang out with and talk about that stuff we queermos like to talk about (processing, veganism, tea etc.) and generally just have a good time. I met my girlfriend at one of these. I’ve made good friends at these. I have basically done more gay stuff since I joined Autostraddle. So, y’know, maybe get on that!

In memory of Jamey Rodemeyer, age 14

gaywrites:

Jamey Rodemeyer, a 14-year-old boy from New York, committed suicide this weekend after being bullied because he’s gay.

He had a strong presence on Tumblr, where he blogged about being bullied at school, and he also recorded a video for the It Gets Better project. His videos are available at the Advocate.com link above.

We won’t forget you, Jamey.

Labels Project, Vol. One

The Labels Project is a collaborative project between myself and Hedda Hammer, a bay area artist and writer, and came after we attended our first pride events in Los Angeles and Long Beach.  Being newly out we noticed quite a few groups and sub groups that we felt were not properly represented in the media, even our own media.  We felt that there was so much about the LGBTQ community that we did not know, and I’m sure others don’t know about.

Though the project has gone through some changes since it’s initial conception, we hope it hope it will continue to grow and evolve as does our community.

I love it.

This Is All Kinds Of Wrong of the Day: Married couple Anthony John Makk and Bradford Wells of San Francisco have been together 19 years, but that matters little to the US government, which two weeks ago denied Makk, an Australian citizen, the right to be considered for permanent residency.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services turned down Makk’s application on the grounds that same-sex couples are not eligible to receive federal benefits per the Defense of Marriage Act. Makk, who is the primary caregiver of Wells, an AIDS-afflicted American citizen, has until August 25th to leave the country.
If Wells moved to Australia with Makk he would lose the critical medical coverage he currently receives.
“It’s infuriating. It’s upsetting,” said Wells. “I have no power, no right to keep my husband in this country. I love this country, I live here, I pay taxes and I have no right to share my home with the person I married.”
Though President Obama and AG Eric Holder have previously stated that DOMA is unconstitutional on equal protection grounds, the administration continues to enforce the law, and House Republicans have hired attorneys to defends it where the White House is unwilling to do so.
A spokesman for Rep. Nancy Pelosi said her office is working on behalf of the couple “to exhaust all appropriate immigration remedies that are open to pursue.”
[sfgate.]

Well, for one, it looks like John Morton’s memo is not doing shit because in that memo it is stated that an individual should not be prosecuted for deportation if they are the primary caregiver of another individual (among many other items of discretion) and two, this story really highlights the spectrum of how many individuals fall out of status here in the U.S. Happens all too often.

God fucking dammit.

REBLOG IF YOU CARE ABOUT THE T IN LGBTQ JUST AS MUCH AS EVERY OTHER

I care about all the colours in the queer rainbow. Fo’ real guys. Let us just stop being jerks to each other and get along. Transgendered people are not satan, gay men and lesbians do not want to eat your babies, genderqueer people are not an omen from Revelations, bisexual people are not ‘confused’ or ‘greedy’ and nobody is going to hell. So lets all just grab a beer or whatever and chill. Also mad props to pansexuals, asexuals, people of the third gender, all my heteros and every and anyone I might have missed out. You take away the labels, we’re all people. Every fucking person. It’s not a difficult concept to grasp so sometimes it baffles me that some people are confused by the idea. Peeps are peeps.
